OSTRICH SYNDROME–HEALTHCARE AT THE CROSSROADS

Is Your Office Suffering from Ostrich Syndrome?
Health Care at the Crossroads
Clinicians struggle with fitting everything into a prescribed time slot! Just
like an ostrich, everyone loses when we stick our heads in the sand.
Patients are frustrated by confusing diagnostics and proposed treatment
plans. Business administrators walk a fine line to get optimal coverage and
reimbursement that is supported by an accurate diagnosis and appropriate
treatment.

Long gone are the days of cookie cutter care. Dental hygienists frequently feel stuck in the
middle. Today’s patients expect quality care. They want their needs met and assume their plan
covers procedures. There are lots of moving parts in the business of dentistry and it can be
really perplexing for everyone from the clinical providers to the business team.
It is daunting to keep up with the unending advances in products, procedures and CDT codes.
These changes impact accurate billing and reimbursements. The ICD-10 diagnostic codes,
required to support the medical necessity of a dental procedure, are fast becoming the norm.
This case-based course sheds light on the steps the entire team needs to take from diagnosis
through billing. We will examine the challenges presented when treating a full day’s worth
of patients. Becoming acquainted with new techniques can put the fun back into clinical care,
stamp out boredom, and generate legitimate revenue.
Join Kathy S. Forbes and Anne Guignon for a lively discussion that will explore one of the most
dangerous phenomena that health care providers face every day. Our speakers will throw a
spotlight on why accurate diagnosis, precise coding, and appropriate treatment are the real
antidotes for the Ostrich Syndrome.
Objectives
* Review “dental insurance 101” and the impact AI is having on reimbursement.
* Explain how and when ICD-10 diagnostic codes can support the medical necessity of
dental services specific to your patients.
* Determine how to select the appropriate diagnostic tests based on clinical findings.
* Shed a legal light on how CDT procedure codes’ descriptors need to match every
treatment service provided.
* Learn about new products and procedures for caries management, “dry mouth
syndrome”, and non-surgical periodontal therapy.
* Describe how comprehensive dental hygiene treatment plans can increase daily
production when appropriate ICD-10 codes and CDT procedure codes are selected.
* Describe various verbal strategies for communicating with patients about their unique,
oral health needs.

Hygienists, dentists and practice managers will benefit from FACES 2025!!! The amount of new technologies and new tools we dental clinicians can use to improve our patient care has multiplied in recent years. In the dental office, we often struggle with how to integrate those new items in a meaningful way and show what we do. FACES this year has KATHY FORBES and ANNE GUIGNON speaking to us about ergonomics, and Jeanne Anderson will bring us up to speed on Advocacy in dental hygiene for Minnesota. The star of the show OSTRICH SYNDROME: HEALTHCARE AT THE CROSSROADS will help us understand how to use our dental coding to record as we integrate the modern day tools and technology we now have as highly educated prevention specialists, multiple activities to work through scenarios we all experience chairside every workday, bringing clarity to our recordkeeping, and bringing more documented value to the patient’s time in the hygienist’s chair.

We all need this information in our hands and in our protocols!!
