The Minnesota Dental Hygienists Association annual Day at the Capitol 2022 will be held virtually on February 23rd 12-1:30.

Our Day at the Capitol 2021 brought together approximately 140 members and student members to focus on oral health issues during the 2021 Minnesota Legislative session.

Highlights of the program included a message from state Representative Tina Liebling, Chair of the House Health Finance and Policy Committee. Rep. Liebling has been a champion for oral health over her 9 terms including supporting the reimbursement for periodontal scaling and root planing for nonpregnant adults on Medicaid. MnDHA will be supporting this provision as the process moves forward this year.

Deb Jacobi, member of MnDHA and Policy Director for Apple Tree Dental, explained the joint effort of the Minnesota Department of Health and our Association in moving forward a proposal with the Blue Ribbon Commission to include Collaborative Practice Dental Hygienists (CPDH) in a state-wide dental component to the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model. If this proposal were implemented, CPDH would be regional coordinators and clinicians throughout targeted Minnesota schools. Our thanks to Deb, Jeanne Anderson, Clare Larkin, Colleen Brickle and the members of the MDH who worked on this project.

Haley Dollins, member of the Advocacy Council of MnDHA, explained the day’s “asks” of legislators and the “how-tos” of promoting our targeted policy changes. Members were asked to email legislators in the coming days to support these policies to promote oral health for our patients.

Thanks to all who attended for making this event a huge success!
